Update on Saturday’s River March, which we first told you about here.
The event brought out 300 participantswho spoke out against the damaging environmental effects of fracking. The trek began at the Schuylkill River, traveled to the Delaware River at Penn Treaty Park, and ended with a rally at Love Park.
Participants of all ages touted signs with messages including, “Say No to Frack,” “We Can’t Drink Money,” “Less Frack, More Solar,” and “I Love Tap Water.” Some created elaborate costumes and props including, a giant fish hat made out of cardboard and an over-sized tombstone adorned with the words “R.I.P. Clean Water Act.” One woman even carried a 13-foot-tall drilling rig for the entire four mile march.
The event was organized by River to River and Protecting Our Waters and co-sponsored by, the Delaware Riverkeeper Network, Food and Water Watch, the Drexel Student Sierra Club, PennEnvironment and Temple Students for Environmental Action.
