Rodale Institute Site Tour for Watershed Volunteers

August 9, 2023 @ 9:15 am - 11:00 am

A custom guided tour of the Rodale Institute, a research and demonstration facility for regenerative organic agriculture.

POWR invites watershed organization leaders and watershed steward volunteers to attend a guided tour of the Rodale Institute in Kutztown, PA on Wednesday, August 9 from 9:30 to 11:00. PLEASE PLAN TO ARRIVE BY 9:15 SO YOU ARE READY TO BEGIN THE TOUR PROMPTLY AT 9:30.

Since 1947, Rodale Institute has taken the lead to promote natural and more responsible ways of farming by conducting research into the cultivation of healthy, living soils. For over four decades the Institute has been researching and demonstrating the benefits of organic farming for water quality, for soil health, for human health, for community and economic vitality, and to help mitigate the impacts and effects of climate change.

Our tour will include a presentation by Rodale staff on their Watershed Impact Trial which is designed to explore and educate the public on connections between farming practices and clean water. It will be a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the relationships between organic and conventional agricultural systems and water resource protection and will give you a better understanding of food production and agriculture land management decision-making.

Our 90 minute walking tour will begin at 9:30 and end by 11:00. Participants are then welcome to spend more time at the facility taking a self-guided walking tour of other parts of the farm including the water purification eco-center, demonstration gardens, the Rodale house, and of course, the garden store and visitor center.

Light refreshments will be served after the tour. Event is rain or shine and will include walking on uneven terrain, please come prepared.

Additional information will be sent to registrants prior to the event.

This FREE event is made possible by a grant to POWR from the National Fish and Wildlife Federation Chesapeake Bay Small Watershed Grant Program.
