Three, Two, One, Blast Off! Seed bombing launches into Philly, TONIGHT!

Start

Image via bitrebels.comAttention all potential seed bombers in Philadelphia! A few weeks ago we wrote about seed bombing, a guerilla gardening movement where balls of clay, compost and seeds are launched onto abandoned areas in hopes of restoring some vegetative beauty. And we were really bummed to find out that Philadelphia had little seed bombing action happening.

But exciting news, the University City District (UCD) just purchased the first seed bomb machine in Philadelphia! These refitted quarter-operated candy machines are designed by the California-based organization Green Aid to dispense seeds balls. The machine will make its debut tonight at the Night Market in University City (39th and Market Sts) from 6-10 p.m. The machine will then be placed in the UCD lobby and taken out for special events, including UCD’s Sustainable Saturday series.

So come out, enjoy the food, festivities, and beer (Philly Beer Week Edition!) at the Night Market and get an up close look at this recent addition to Philly’s urban gardening arsenal.
