7/1 Hands That Feed Us Opening Reception

Kick-off your Holiday weekend with Albert Yee’s local food-centric photo exhibition. The GRID contributing photographer and Fair Food staffer has put together a collection of photos to create “Hands That Feed Us: A peek into our foodshed” – a snap shot of our region’s impressive producers. The opening reception will take place tomorrow at the Gravy Studio & Gallery in Fishtown. But, if you can’t make the opening night, no worries The show will be on display throughout July for viewing by appointment.

7/1 Bike Safety Lesson at Palmer Playground

Before your wee ones break out the streamers and decorate their bikes, make sure they know how to be safe while riding. Safe Routes Philly’s Youth Educator will be instructing a 60-minute bike safety class for kids ages 8-12 participating in the Recreation Departments summer camps. This class will focus on rules of the road, and how to be a responsible and VISIBLE rider.

7/2 Macrobiotic Potluck

A Potluck dinner is held during the first Saturday of every month at the Strengthening Health Institute and they’d love for you to join in on the feast. Simply bring a macrobiotic, vegan dish to share, (here are some great recipes) and arrive by 5:30 p.m. for a bound-to-be-delicious 6 p.m. dinner! The Strengthening Health Institute also offers cooking classes and macrobiotic seminars.

7/5 International Forest Film Festival

Since the UN General Assembly declared 2011 as the International Year of Forests, the first ever International Forest Film Festival has been organized by the United Nations Forum on Forests Secretariat and the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival. In Philadelphia, two of the three featured documentaries will be screened outdoors at Liberty Lands Park in support of PHS’s Plant One Million campaign. In an effort to plant more trees in the Keystone state, the Plant One Million campaign is on a mission to plant trees and knowledge.

7/6 Summer Farm Tour: Purely Farm & Just One Seed

The Bucks County Foodshed Alliance is hosting a farm tour of Purely Farm and Just One Seed Farm. Purely Farm is where Joanna & Marc Michini raise pastured pork, lamb, chicken, and rabbit, and produce free range eggs. Just One Seed Farm is maintained by farmer Eve Minson, where she grows vegetables for a community supported agriculture program. This is an educational opportunity for participants of all ages.
