Power Up: City celebrates PWD solar array

Start

Cutler, Neukrug, Gajewski, Muller, Sullivan, and Kenney listen on as Mayor Nutter discusses solar array.

On April 25th Mayor Nutter, the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability and PWD held the “powering up” ceremony (we first mentioned it here) to celebrate the solar photovoltaic installation at PWD’s S.E. Water Pollution Control Plant. This is an especially notable event because the 250kW array is Philly’s first city-owned solar installation.

In attendance were Rina Cutler, Deputy Mayor for Transportation and Utilities; Kristin Sullivan, Solar America Cities Philadelphia Project Director; Hannah Muller, U.S. Department of Energy Solar America Cities Program Lead; Howard Neukrug, Philadelphia Water Department Commissioner; Katherine Gajewski, City of Philadelphia Director of Sustainability; and Councilman James Kenney.

The group poses with “power up” display.
