In the House: Farmers Market season has officially begun

Start

image via press.visitphilly.comThis weekend was jam-packed with events that drew major crowds! PIFA’s street fair, the Broad Street Run, and perhaps most excitingly (because we get to experience it every weekend) the Headhouse Square Farmers Market!

The city’s largest and most popular market (at least amongst local restaurateurs and GRID staffers) opened for the season on Sunday, and we can’t wait til next weekend already!

Familiar favorites including, Birchrun Hills, Culton Organics, John & Kira’s, Market Day Canele, Three Springs Fruit Farm and Wildflour Bakery were all in attendance. Plus, the perfect before, during or after market-perusing fuel from Los Taquitos de Puebla and Renaissance Sausage.

Since the growing season is just getting going, you can expect to find asparagus and lots of young greens, but the market runs through Thanksgiving and ends in mid-December, so you have ample time to sample all that Headhouse’s vendors have to offer.

The market is open on Sundays from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at 2nd and Lombard Streets.  For more information, check out the Food Trust’s website and FB/Twitter pages for up to the market information.
