Plant One Million: PHS’s tree-centric campaign

Start

image via PHSThe Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s (PHS) newest greening campaign, Plant One Million, is an exciting greening endeavor that will plant trees in southeastern Pennsylvania, plus parts of New Jersey and Delaware.

The benefits of planting trees is no doubt recognized by our fair city – Mayor Nutter’s Green 2015 plan dedicates much of its space to the air quality improving and community beautifying benefits of trees. Trees also assist in keeping our sweltering city cool in the summer, help prevent flooding, and increase property value. PHS offers a whole mess of tree-positive facts on their site here.

While we can wax poetic for hours about the positive impacts trees offer, the truth is that in order to experience these benefits we have to get planting! Starting this weekend (April 9th & 10th) PHS will host Workdays for interested volunteers to get the planting ball rolling. You can also find the specific volunteer location right in your neighborhood by using the interactive map.

The sooner you jump on board, the sooner PHS will reach one million!
