Start

Keep Philadelphia Beautiful

, a non-profit organization with a mission to improve the physical and visual aspects of local communities is currently accepting nominations for their Token Appreciation Awards.

From now until March 21, you can nominate those in your community who are making a difference. These individuals are your next door neighbors who volunteer their time to educate kids about recycling, plant community gardens, and help seniors take out the trash. It’s these  small act of kindness that win our admiration and Keep Philadelphia Beautiful would like to award these individuals who are beautifying their communities.

“I wanted to fill a void,” says Phoebe Coles, the executive director, when asked how the awards came to be. “I realized there were so many people in the city doing good work. And they don’t necessarily get recognized, even in their neighborhoods.”

In order to nominate someone, send a nomination of 50 words or less to Phoebe Coles at phoebe@keepphiladelphiabeautiful.org, detailing how your nominee is making an impact. For detailed instructions click here.

The winners will be recognized at a special ceremony on Friday, April 1, 2011, with special guest Miss America, Teresa Scanlan.
