Trees Please: Upcoming Tree Planting Events

Start

Trees provide for us in amazing ways. Did you know that one mature tree can produce enough oxygen to sustain two human beings? Or that an acre of trees absorbs the same amount of carbon dioxide in a single year as is produced by a car driving 26,000 miles? Over the course of the next month, the Natural Land Trust will be hosting several tree planting events in the area and is looking for volunteers. Keep these dates in mind (and be sure to bring your friends!):

Saturday, March 20: Tree Planting Day at the Gwynedd Wildlife Preserve, 9-11 a.m.

Goal: Plant 500 trees. Light refreshments will be provided. Bring work gloves and a shovel, if you have them, and dress appropriately. Gwynedd Wildlife Preserve, 640 S. Swedesford Rd., Ambler. Pre-registration is required, contact Mandy Santiago at msantiago@natlands.org or 610-353-5587 ext. 266. Rain date is March 21.

Saturday, March 27: Tree Planting Day at Sadsbury Wood Preserve, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Goal: Plant 1,000 trees. Light refreshments will be provided. Bring work gloves and a shovel, if you have them, and dress appropriately. Sadsbury Wood Preserve, 220 Old Mill Rd., Parkesburg. Pre-registration is required, contact Mandy Santiago at msantiago@natlands.org or 610-353-5587 ext. 266. Rain date is March 28.

Saturday, April 10: Tree Planting Day at ChesLen Preserve, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

Goal: Plant 600 trees. The Natural Land Trust is teaming up with the Young Friends of Brandywine Conservancy to achieve this goal. Light refreshments will be provided. Bring work gloves and a shovel, if you have them, and dress appropriately. ChesLen Preserve, Route 162 (Embreeville Rd.) & Kelsall Rd., Coatesville. Pre-registration is required, contact either Mandy Santiago at msantiago@natlands.org or 610-353-5587 ext. 266, or Kathy Freney Smith at ksmith@brandywine.org or 610-388-8315. Rain date is April 11.

  1. Several South Philadelphia civic associations will be teaming up on Saturday, April 24, to plant over 150 trees through their participation in the state-sponsored TreeVitalize program. If you’re interested in participating as a volunteer or would like to support our efforts through donations of food or beverages for our hard-working volunteers, please email lomophilly@gmail.com.
