The Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia recently released a report on the viability of bike sharing in Philadelphia. The result of a year of research, the “Philadelphia Bike Share Concept Study” found that a market exists in Philadelphia and recommended a system of 2,500 to 4,500 bicycles.
I recently spent some time in Paris and, despite some issues, people seem to love the Velib system—its used by both visitors and residents.
More information on this exciting development is available here.
Now that the Philadelphia Bike Share Concept Study recommends a Bike Share system for Philadelphia, our organization , Bike Share Philadelphia, will call upon the City Administration to create a system as quickly as possible. The Philadelphia Inquirer editorial on Saturday 6 March 2010 ask Mayor Nutter to take the next step and launch a program.
