Buy Local: Metropolitan Bakery’s Pain Au Levain

Start

This Philadelphia institution, started 15 years ago by Wendy Smith and James Barrett, has consistently churned out delicious artisan breads. Their Pain Au Levain, a classic French country bread, is an incredibly versatile sourdough. There is just enough crunch on the outside to complement the light, chewy inside. Metropolitan Bakery is also doing their part in the community by donating bread to homeless shelters each week and co-sponsoring a café to raise money for Project H.O.M.E.
