We are hiring a freelance writer to join our team!

Grid Magazine is looking for an experienced reporter to join our team of freelance columnists to cover the complicated and important topic of race in Philadelphia.

This columnist would be responsible for one 1200-word piece per month for our print publication. Content could include features of BIPOC community leaders heading local political or social movements; local stories about the intersection of race and environmental injustice; examinations of incidents or patterns of discrimination; and explorations of systemic issues tied to race such as inequalities in and between schools, generational poverty, and gentrification. The ideal candidate should have several years of on-the-job reporting experience and a deep understanding and academic curiosity about how race affects the lives of Philadelphians. Please mention if you have existing connections to potential sources within the Philadelphia community. To apply, please submit a resume to awjones@gridphilly.com along with: – A few words about your reporting background and what makes you a good fit for this role. – Three ideas of stories you would pitch if selected for this position—each detailed in its own paragraph. – Three relevant clips of your previous reporting.
