Free Trees: Creating Canopies with Penn

Start

upenn.edu/pennnews/creating-canopy

Mayor Nutter’s 2009 Greenworks Philadelphia plan included the ambitious goal to increase tree coverage by 30 percent in all neighborhoods by 2025. In order to accomplish this over-arching canopy goal 300,000 trees must be planted in the city by 2015.

To assist the Mayor in reaching this number, the University of Pennsylvania has partnered with Philadelphia Parks & Recreation and UC Green to launch “Creating Canopies with Penn” an initiative that will give free trees to UPenn faculty and staff living within the city.

The program will kick-off with a Tree Giveaway event on March 31st from 1 – 3 p.m. UPenn community members who are unable to make this event are invited to attend the Alternate Tree Pick-up Day on April 2nd from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
