Local for All: Help support community gardens and fight hunger

Start

Image via tlc.comPhiladelphia has one of the highest rates of hunger in the United States, but it also has one of the highest rates of obesity and chronic diseases due to the lack of affordable, healthy food in low-income areas.

Recently, the Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger (GPCAH) teamed up with Groupon in order to raise funds for a community garden in the Francisville neighborhood. The main purpose of this garden is to provide fresh fruits and vegetables to food pantries and soup kitchens. In doing so, the GPCAH and Groupon are supporting efforts to overcome this hunger epidemic.

The GPCAH is only able to establish such a community garden with proper funding for raised garden beds, seeds, equipment, and planting and distribution expenses. Meaning, any and all donations are greatly appreciated. A $10 donation and all donations up to $500 will be matched by the Pincus Fund for Hunger Relief. With $500 the GPCAH will be able to purchase five raised garden beds and the seeds needed to grow fresh fruit and vegetables. But don’t just stop there. For every additional $70, the organization can purchase another raised garden bed to grow even more produce that will further benefit the Francisville community.

Make your $10 donation here. One hundred percent of the donations go directly to GPCAH.
