The Agatson Urban Nutrition Intitiative is rolling out its annual fundraiser on May 21st, and it’s shaping up to be a locally-charged, down-home affair. Eats and Beats, as it has appropriately been dubbed, will feature the musical stylings of the Philadelphia Folksong Society, and of course plenty of local fare.
If you’re not familiar with AUNI, here’s the deal: the initiative is a university-community partnership based at UPenn that involved local youth (K-16+) in a curriculum that seeks to improve community nutrition and overall well-being. The curriculum is divided in three important categories:
- Increasing food and nutrition knowledge
- Increasing the supply of healthy foods
- Encouraging and supporting active lifestyles
To truly show you what they’ve learned, and what they’ve got, AUNI youth with prepare a locally- sourced, organic dinner for all attendees, plus live entertainment. If that doesn’t already have you gearin’ up to grab your tickets, get this; all the money raised will go towards supporting the youth-led Rooted in Community Conference, as well as the expanding Mariposa Food Co-op. Buy your tickets (available on a sliding scale of $15 – 50) here, and email eatsandbeats2011@gmail.com with any questions.
