Clean Up the Creek: Volunteers Needed in Wissahickon

Start

“Pictured here are some of last year’s volunteers with their morning haul.” Courtesy of Clean Up 2010The Friends of the Wissahickon (FOW) and the Wissahickon Valley Watershed Association (WVWA) are in need of some dedicated volunteers who are interested in participating in their annual Creek Clean Up Saturday, April 30 from 9:00am until noon at the pavillion along Forbiden Drive. (a short distance south of the intersection of Forbidden Dr. and Northwestern Ave.)

Volunteers will join the WVWA as they celebrate the 41st anniversary of their annual Creek Clean Up and their second year collaborating with FOW to clean the entire creek from top to bottom- all 21 miles of it! Volunteers will be assigned their own section of the creek and will be equipped with bags for collecting anything found in the creek. To help out Montgomery County, all volunteers must be pre-assigned a section of the Wissahickon Creek to clean. Volunteers are also encouraged to ride their bikes to the event because parking is limited. Plus, it’s more earth-friendly!

Following the clean up, WVWA invites all the volunteers to its Talkin’ Trash picnic in Fort Washington State Park. Food will be provided by Whole Foods Market.

To participate, register on the FOW website at www.fow.org and make sure to indicate whether or not you plan on attending the picnic. For any other questions, or directions to the park, contact Kevin Groves at (215) 247-0417 x 105 or email him at groves@fow.org.
