Scrapple Celebration: RTM Hosts Scrapplefest March 26

Start

If you have lived in Philadelphia for an extended period of time, then you surely have heard about scrapple. It’s kind of like a sausage, and is usually prepared from fragments of pork (the scraps), cornmeal and spices. It is cooked in a loaf pan, and when you’re ready to devour it to pieces, the scrapple is cut into slices and griddled until crisp.

We think that scrapple is a little misunderstood, plus with vegan scrapple options (try Vrapple!) the dish has become more than just about the meat. What better way to educate the masses on the deliciousness of this spiced delicacy than to host a festival centered around the dish? Enter: SCRAPPLEFEST 2011.

On March 26 (Saturday), the Reading Terminal Market will host its annual celebration of all things scrapple. There will be scrapple tastings (including options for the vegan set), cooking demonstrations by area chefs, scrapple sculptures, a recipe contest and plethora of music flowing all around you to make it even more enjoyable. Come out to have fun with your community and learn more about scrapple.
