MLK Day: Community-Minded Events

This Monday, January 17 is Martin Luther King Day, and we can’t think of a better way to honor the spirit of MLK than with events that bring community members together in the spirit of education and change.

First up, Neighborhood Bike Works(NBW) is celebrating with a day of service. The bike gurus will host volunteer events at four of their shops:

 

 

  • NBW Headquarters: 2916 Locust Walk
  • N. Philly: 1424 W. Susquehanna Ave.
  • Haddington: 230 N. Salford St.
  • South Philly: 508 S. 5th St.

Each location will begin the day at 9 a.m. and work until 3:30 or four. The day’s activities will include light construction/renovation, cleaning and organizing. Plus, at NBW no volunteer goes hungry, and all dedicated do-gooders will receive both breakfast and lunch.

Next up, the Energy Coordinating Agency’sMLK Day free energy conservation workshop. This event invites interested community members to learn how to keep their homes warm, and energy bills down. Highlights include, a free weatherization workshop and weatherizing materials to take home. The day’s informative events will run from 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. at 106 W. Clearfield Street.
