Upcoming: Greening and Cleaning NW Philly

Start

Ogontz Avenue Revitalization Corp. (OARC) has great things to help green and clean Northwest Philadelphia. The organization has planted close to 2,000 trees, built a working green house for students of Martin Luther King High School and renewed the Awbury, Waterview and Morton Recreation Centers, to name a few accomplishments.

Next Saturday, September 25, OARC will host its final 2010 Urban Energy Conservation Initiative. They’ll install energy-saving devices such as CFL bulbs, window and outlet weatherization kits and low-flow showerhead and faucet aerators into homes on the 5300 block of Lena Street:

“Our energy-saving block initiatives are a great way to raise awareness about the need to end wasteful use of water, gas and electricity, and to help residents lower energy costs and reduce the strain on our utility infrastructure,” said Karyn Conway, OARC’s Director of Business Development and Special Projects. In addition, OARC will spearhead clean-up of a nearby vacant lot with help from the Wister NAC, Germantown Earn Center, Neighborhood Interfaith Movement and block residents.

September 25, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., 5300 block of Lena Street, oarcphilly.org
