Mayor Nutter rides shotgun in Hybrid X’s GT

Today, the Mayor hosted a send-off for the West Philly Hybrid X Team at City Hall.

If you read July’s Grid cover story, then you already know all about this hardworking group of teachers and students building hybrid cars and competing for the $10 million Progressive Automotive X Prize.

On Sunday, the team leaves for Michigan where they will compete in another series of tests and evaluations. They are the only high school team left in the competition, while heavyweights like MIT and Tesla have been eliminated.

The Mayor is helped from the two-seater by team member and teacher Ron Weiss.

Nutter and representatives from the team address the crowd, flanked by a couple Eagles cheerleaders.
