Fleet Week: The City Debuts New Recycling Trucks

Start

Plan on a late lunch tomorrow.

In honor of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, Mayor Nutter, the Philadelphia Streets Department and the Mural Arts Program will debut 10 colorful new recycling trucks, add to the current fleet of beautiful beasts. The festivities will take place at 3 p.m. tomorrow in LOVE Park after an Earth Day Parade down Broad Street. (The trucks will depart from Temple University at 1:45 p.m.) There will also be live music and appearances by some of the city’s favorite mascots.

As part of Design in Motion: The Recycling Truck Project, artist Desireé Bender, the drivers of the 10 recycling trucks and over 60 students—ranging in age from 10 to 14—worked together on the conceptualization, design and production of the graphic vinyl wraps.
