Last week, we told you about the House passing the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act. On Monday, Salon reported that President Obama has indeed signed the school nutrition legislation into law. The Act will improve the quality of school lunches, increase federal reimbursement for free lunches and provide new funding for an additional 20 million after-school meals annually in all 50 states.
Michelle Obama, who has been championing improved childhood nutrition through her Let’s Move! campaign had this to say:
“We can agree that in the wealthiest nation on earth all children should have the basic nutrition they need to learn and grow. Nothing is more important than the health and well-being of our children. Nothing.”
