Specticast will present “Carmen,” the most popular opera in the world, to Rydal Park. Although the passionate tale takes place in Spain, Georges Bizat, a French composer, wrote it. The story is about Don Jose, a naïve soldier, who is seduced by the gypsy, Carmen. Don abandons his childhood sweetheart and leaves the military, only to discover that Carmen has left him for the glamorous toreador, Escamillo. Out of jealousy, Jose proceeds to kill Carmen. The aria “Torreador,” familiar to those who are not opera enthusiasts, comes from this work.
